The Notre Dame Fighting Irish and the
Colorado Buffaloes knew each other well.
Just a year before on the same field, the
Golden Domers walloped the Buffs 21 - 6.
But on January 1, 1991, things would be
different in the Orange Bowl. The
Colorado Buffaloes, a team of comebacks
and controversy, overcame the loss of their
top quarterback Darian Hagen to earn its
first National Championship with a 10 - 9
victory over Notre Dame.
The game was billed as a showdown
between Colorado's Eric Bieniemy and
Notre Dame speedster Raghib "Rocket"
Ismail and the two did not disappoint.
